Michael Jordan Forever

Author's Note: I am writing about this book because for one of my goals I need to read a non-fiction book by the end of the 3rd quarter so I decided to respond to it. In this piece I am focusing on going beyond a summary and giving better word choice.

"Each game, as he stepped onto the floor for introduction, he was greeted by the flashes for a thousand small cameras." (1) After more than 1,000 games filled with unforgettable memories, Michael Jordan officially ended his career in 2003 with the Washington Wizards. Michael played with the Chicago Bulls for most of his career and set multiple records in the NBA. Not many people can make connections with this but some people can. Michael Jordan had a very positive career in both the NBA and college.

Some of his positive career came in college at the University of North Carolina. In college, Michael averaged almost 18 points a game even though he didn't play his senior year. I think he should have declared for the NBA right after his senior year in high school for many reasons. One reason is that he averaged 28 points and 12 rebounds a game! When you average a double-double in high school you might be ready for the NBA and can skip college. A disadvantage to skipping college is that when you retire from the NBA you will not have as many smarts as the other people that went to college. Choosing to go straight to the NBA and no college could change your life after your basketball career is done.

If you are a die hard basketball player, your life long goal is probably to make it to the NBA, yet you never think of playing or learning at a college. You mostly focus on, "I want to play in the NBA. I want to play in the NBA." Michael Jordan knew what it took to make it through all three years of college and soon he was in the NBA playing for the Chicago Bulls. He was drafted 3rd overall by the Bulls but most people thought he should have been picked 1st or 2nd overall. I can connect to that because I have disagreed with many things that have to deal with sports but not as important as the Michael Jordan's case. An example of this was when my friend picked Carmelo Anthony and not Lebron James when almost everyone in the world knew Lebron was better. Lebron James ended up being three times better in that season than Carmelo Anthony. Michael Jordan set many records in the NBA over his career. One of them is being the only seven consecutive scoring title champion. Another one is most points scored in a playoff game with 63 points! Michael Jordan knew what he had to do to get into the NBA and he succeeded.

While Michael was on his journey to the NBA, he thought of multiple quotes that would influence himself to work hard. One of his quotes was, "I'm not out there sweating for three hours every day just to find out what it feels like to sweat." This quote means to me that you should always work hard and when your day of work is done you should know that even if you don’t look better, your skills are better in the game and next time you play. Another quote is, "Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation." This quotes means to me that even if you are down by two with ten seconds left, turn it into a positive situation by thinking and telling your teammates that you can win this game.

After all of Michael Jordan's unforgettable memories and game winning shots, he retired in 2003. Michael also had one of the best careers a NBA player could have. He won the scoring title ten times and won the M.V.P. six times in the NBA finals. Michael Jordan was the best basketball player that has ever lived.
