Basketball Season

Author's Note: I am writing this piece for my project. We are seeing if we can improve our writing and spelling in 30 school days. I am trying to get in the habit of writing a lot. I am trying to improve on body paragraphs and my introduction.

This season I am playing on the Pewaukee Jr. Pirates for basketball. I think we are a good team but we have played most of the hardest teams in our league. We also got two additions to our basketball team this year and they have both made an impact. We have only been in one tournament this year but we will be in 4 or 5 more including the state tournament for the first time. I think that our team will end up with a good season and finish in the top 5 for league.

We are currently tied for 5th place in league. We had one big upset so far and that was against Arrowhead. Most people on our team thought that they were starting some of their bad players thinking they would easily win. After twenty minutes, we were up, but only by a few. After another twenty minutes, we finally beat them for the first time in 3 years. Last year we were winning by twelve with two minutes left but we blew it. In our 1-3-1 zone we had a person that was not guarding their guy in the zone and he made four three's in a row and then they had a few lay-ups. Eventually, they won by like two. Our coach was really mad that we lost that game.

Our team has almost the same team as last year but we got two new people, Michael and Alex. Michael plays center or what we call it, five. He has made an impact because our team is shorter than most teams and he gives us more height and speed. Alex has made an impact because he can make mid-range shots and three pointers. He is also physical and aggressive so he can get more rebounds. Our team has got better and will get even better by the end of the season and some of it is because our additions for this season.

My mom told me yesterday that we just booked our hotel for the state tournament. This is the first year the team and me alone are going to this tournament. We couldn't last year because we had to go to the rec tournament. Since the tournament is in La Crosse, we get to stay at the hotel for two nights. Something I like about the state tournament is that we play only Division II teams and not Division I teams. When we played in our first tournament, we played in Verona, WI. The first game we played, we played the best team in state because they won state for Division I last year. We lost by a ton, I think the score was like 65-20. Then we won our next two games to get 3rd place. I can't wait for the state tournament.

I think our team will have a winning season and have at least a .750 winning percentage. Since we have two key additions and we will be playing worse teams after Christmas, I believe that we can have a very good season.
